XM IS NOW EXCLUSIVE SATELLITE RADIO HOME TO AIR AMERICA RADIO
Air America Radio Personalities, Including Al Franken To Begin Special Live Broadcasts From XM Later This Year
Washington D.C., July 11, 2005 -- Beginning this week, XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: XMSR), the nation's leading satellite radio provider with more than 4.4 million subscribers, is now the exclusive satellite radio home of Air America Radio, the national progressive entertainment talk radio network home to Al Franken, Randi Rhodes and Janeane Garofalo. In April, XM and Air America Radio announced a long-term partnership to make XM the exclusive satellite radio provider of Air America Radio programming.
As part of this new partnership, Air America Radio's on-air personalities, including Al Franken, will regularly take their progressive political talk on the road for special, live broadcasts in front of a studio audience from XM's Washington, D.C. studios. The first of these live XM studio shows will take place later this year.
"We are very grateful to XM for the belief they have shown in Air America Radio," said Air America Radio CEO Danny Goldberg. "Our association with XM Satellite Radio is a major step in bringing a truly national voice to tens of millions of Americans who are sick of relying on conservative or middle of the road media for their news and political opinion."
"Here at XM we pride ourselves on providing our listeners, whatever their political ideology, with a broad range of programming that reflects our nation's diverse social and political landscape," said XM Satellite Radio President and CEO Hugh Panero. "As the only satellite radio provider to offer Air America Radio programming, we are confident that XM is providing the best progressive talk available to our more than 4.4 million subscribers."
As part of the Air America Radio partnership, XM relaunched its liberal talk channel featuring a new channel name and expanded programming from its partner. Air America Radio (XM Channel 167), features an expanded line up of Air America programming, including the recently debuted "Springer on the Radio" hosted by Jerry Springer, "The Rachel Maddow Show," and "The Mike Malloy Show". These programs join XM's Air America Radio channel featuring progressive political talk. XM broadcasts encores and highlights from its weekday Air America Radio lineup on Saturdays and Sundays. In addition, XM airs shows hosted by Robert Kennedy Jr., Laura Flanders, Steve Earle and others. A complete schedule for XM's Air America Radio is available online
