XM CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH ORIGINAL MUSIC SERIES, SPECIALS AND EXCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING FEATURING QUINCY JONES,LENNY KRAVITZ, WYNTON MARSALIS & MORE

Washington D.C., January 25, 2005 -- XM Satellite Radio, the nation's leading satellite radio provider with more than 3.2 million subscribers, will celebrate Black History Month in February with a wide variety of music, talk and entertainment, including brand-new episodes of original XM music programs. Throughout the month of February, XM will offer listeners an impressive range of exclusive shows, featuring music industry legend Quincy Jones, rock superstar Lenny Kravitz, hip hop artist Nas, and jazz icon Wynton Marsalis, among others.

Some of the highlights of XM's Black History Month programming include (all times ET):

"Black History Timeline" on The Groove (XM Channel 64): This exclusive XM special documenting key moments and songs from the Civil Rights era will share the stories of people who lived through the struggle of the 1960s and early 1970s. Premiering on January 31 at 10:00 a.m., XM's Black History Timeline spotlights songs by Marvin Gaye, Al Green and many others.

"Artist Confidential" on XM Live (XM Channel 200) and various channels: New episodes of XM's critically-acclaimed series "Artist Confidential" will debut in February, including interviews with Lenny Kravitz, Al Jarreau, Wynton Marsalis and legendary Motown songwriter Lamont Dozier.

"Charlestown: Ray Charles" on the 50s (XM Channel 5): XM's "Matt the Cat" will host this four-part tribute to the life and music of Ray Charles, beginning February 1 at 5:00 p.m. Matt will also host special weekly-themed episodes of "Harlem," showcasing R&B artists of the 1950s, in February.

"From Scratch: Nas" on The City (XM Channel 67): Check out the "Street Disciple" Nas on the world premiere of "From Scratch," a new series that highlights leading musicians. Nas will discuss his life and his evolution as an artist on "From Scratch" on February 3 at 10:00 p.m.

"Stax Records Special" on Soul Street (XM Channel 60): Soul Street's Bobby Bennett and Leigh Hamilton will broadcast live from the Stax Museum in Memphis on February 4 from 3:00-9:00 p.m., featuring interviews with many of the artists responsible for the success of the Stax/Volt record labels and putting the renowned Memphis music scene on the map. Later in the month, record industry giant Al Bell will sit down with Bobby Bennett to discuss the history of Stax and his remarkable career.

"We Insist! Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite" on Real Jazz (XM Channel 70): As the civil rights movement was taking shape, drummer Max Roach performed and recorded this classic, seven-part suite dealing with black history, particularly slavery, and racism. Hear this important jazz recording on February 6 at 12 noon on XM's Real Jazz.

"Divas of Hip Hop" on The Rhyme (XM Channel 65): XM celebrates the women of hip hop, their music and accomplishments, including Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Yo-Yo, Da Brat, Lady of Rage and many others, with four specials airing in February, beginning February 10 at 7:00 p.m.

"B.B. King Live on XM" on Bluesville (XM Channel 74): The King of the Blues graced the XM Performance Theater in Washington, D.C., with an exclusive live concert and interview on January 16; hear the encore broadcast of this extraordinary performance on February 13 at 10:00 am.

"From Be-Bop to Hip Hop with Quincy Jones" on The Groove (XM Channel 64): XM's seven-hour mini-series marks the first time Quincy shares the private stories behind his remarkable career in a broadcast forum. This important oral history is generously interspersed with vintage interviews, rare sound bites and musical interludes, many from Jones' personal archives. "From Be-Bop to Hip Hop" will air on various XM channels at 12 noon, February 21 through February 27.

"Legacy" on Watercolors (XM Channel 71): XM pays tribute to Grover Washington, one of the African-American jazz masters who helped shape contemporary jazz music (debuts February 8, 1:00 p.m.).

The Power (XM Channel 169), America's only 24-hour, nationwide African American talk radio channel, will broadcast a series of exclusive specials, in-depth interviews, and call-in shows devoted to Black History Month during February.

"90s Artists in Black History" on the 90s (XM Channel 9): All February long, XM's Priestly takes a look at African-American artists who contributed to the musical sound during the 1990s.

Black History Month programming on XM is presented exclusively by General Motors, a major contributor to the Washington DC, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc., which is responsible for the "Build the Dream Campaign" in support of a King memorial on the Mall in the nation's capital.
