XM SATELLITE RADIO TO BROADCAST "TSUNAMI AID: A CONCERT OF HOPE" LIVE ON JANUARY 15
Washington D.C., January 14, 2005 -- XM Satellite Radio, the nation's leading provider of satellite radio with more than 3.2 million subscribers, will broadcast "Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope," a live benefit special organized by the NBC Universal Television Group to help victims of the tsunami tragedy in southern Asia, on Saturday, January 15, from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm ET.
The commercial-free concert will be broadcast in stereo on XM's MSNBC channel (XM Channel 130) and XM's CNBC channel (XM Channel 127). Donation phone lines will be open throughout the evening. For a list of performers, please visit http://www.nbc.com . The event will also air across NBC's broadcast and cable TV channels.
XM's live broadcast of "Tsunami Aid" is the latest initiative of "XM Nation: Operation Helping Hand," which XM started in September 2004 to raise money for disaster relief following the hurricane devastation in the southeastern U.S.
In response to the Asian tsunami disaster, XM is encouraging its listeners to donate much-needed funds to the American Red Cross International Response Fund through its web site (www.xmradio.com/helpinghand) and by phone at 1-800-HELP-NOW.
XM fans who make an online contribution of $50 or more to the American Red Cross International Response Fund will receive a special "XM Nation: Operation Helping Hand" wristband.
"When disaster strikes, the Red Cross depends on voluntary contributions to provide operation relief supplies, financial assistance, and emergency personnel," said Eric Logan, executive vice president of programming, XM Satellite Radio. "We are calling on the XM Nation to stand up and make a contribution so the Red Cross can assist in the massive relief effort underway in southern Asia. Every contribution makes a difference.
"We originally launched 'XM Nation: Operation Helping Hand' in the days following Hurricane Jeanne in Florida, and the response from listeners was extraordinary. We expect that XM fans will respond again with the same passion and generosity," Logan said.
