So Predictable That Democrats Should Have a Playbook - The Furies - various opinions culled from online radio talkshows

David Mattson

So Predictable That Democrats Should Have a Playbook

Rush Limbaugh, Excellence in Broadcasting Network, www.RushLimbaugh.com

Democrats have been complaining about the same things and promising to fix the same problems my whole life. I'm 52, and I've been paying attention to this stuff since I was 12. So for 40 years, nothing's changed. It's striking.

I was talking ... last night about my writing a Democrat playbook, and the more I think about it, the more I really ought to do it. Their playbook is not much larger than what would be in a pamphlet, however; maybe there should be suggested plays included, too.

Fashion Showdown: Nazis vs. Liberals

Tom Adkins, The Common Conservative Internet Radio Show, Philadelphia, www.CommonConservative.com

This week a bunch of liberal professors published a study that claims conservatives are just like Nazis. Really? Let's take a look.

Nazis stood for strong, centralized government. In fact, the word "Nazi" stood for "national socialists." Nazis were against religion, confiscated guns, invented politically correct speech and punished dissent (try being a pro-life liberal). That's why Nazis invented the SWAT team to break into homes of anyone who disagreed with them just like Janet Reno did with David Koresh and Elian Gonzales.

Educators, bureaucrats and the press loved the Nazis, and used public schools and newspapers to rewrite history. In fact, there is little distinguishing Nazis from American liberals except Nazis were snappy dressers.

Gray Davis' Love Affair With Power

Laura Ingraham, Westwood One Radio Network, New York City, www.LauraIngraham.com

The nauseating truth about Gray Skies [California Gov. Gray Davis] is that he represents the absolute worst in American politics today the politician's love affair with power over what's best for the people. Davis' contemptuous reaction to the recall once again demonstrates just how self-centered and negative he is.

He defeated White House pick Richard Riordan in the last gubernatorial primary by savaging him as captive to the far right. Ditto in his defeat of his general-election opponent Bill Simon (who also ran a horrid campaign).

It is no exaggeration to say that if Gray Skies spent as much time during his first term as governor attending to the state's looming budget disaster and the energy mess as he did in raising the $78 million for his 2002 re-election, there probably never would have been a recall.

Politicians Plan Your Traffic Congestion

Roger Hedgecock, KOGO 600-AM, San Diego, www.RogerHedgecock.com

Stuck in freeway traffic? Well, traffic jams are planned to get worse! That's right local government traffic planners [in San Diego] are planning to spend $42 billion over the next 30 years, most of it on buses and trolleys that only 2 to 4 percent of us use. More carpool lanes, more money for van pools. Your car is the enemy. Your freedom of movement is the problem, not traffic jams.

So if you want to get around in [San Diego] in the future, get used to taking the trolley or the bus, even if they don't go where you want and take three times as long! The traffic-planner bureaucrats will make it so inconvenient to drive your car that you won't!

Twenty years ago the same planners with the same goals did the same thing and the result is the traffic jams we have now. So no matter how long it takes or how many billions need to be spent you will get out of that car and into a bus. Time to recall these people, too!

Kobe Bryant Coverage or Bust?

Brian Wilson, KSFO 560-AM, San Francisco, www.KSFO.com

After days of wall-to-wall Kobe [Bryant] coverage, what has been scurrilously avoided is the mention of race. A black male accused of raping a white female makes for quite a stereotype. Has our society finally become color-blind? If so, why did the U.S. Supreme Court tell us we need another 25 years [to get over racism]?

Certainly, the enlightenment required to watch TV shows about unmarried trailer-trash couples taking lie-detector tests to learn the identity of the true father of their bastard children puts the American viewing public above the petty concerns of race.

The question is, why is the media covering the Kobe case? Simple: it's summer; there isn't any real news, or at least any a liberal media wants to talk about.

David Mattson is a summer reporter for Insight magazine.
